It is the holiday season. I am finished with craft fairs for the year, so I have some time for special orders. I just updated my ArtFire store with some of my new items and several of my ornaments. I’ll continue adding more in the next week. I’m also working on my first gourd. I’m pretty excited to see how it burns.

Here’s a peak of my latest work.

Christmas Ornaments

I’ve already had people asking about my hand burned Christmas ornaments. I really have to start working on these earlier next year. I haven’t been able to list many online because I can’t keep them in stock locally. The good news is that I just received a large supply of wood slices to keep up with the demand. this year the types of wood include birch, maple, cedar, apple, linden, and a few more that I don’t have definite identification of. I’m also looking in to adding key chains to what I sell.

Here are a couple of pictures of some of my ornaments (and a spoon) in progress.

Update 11/1/2012

Fall is my busy time of year. All of my big craft shows are in the fall. It leaves me with little time for anything else and as such I have neglected my blog. Never fear, I am still here and still plugging away at my art.

I finished my giant bowl just in time for the Artist Supporting ARC show last week. I think it turned out pretty well.

I’m currently working on upping my holiday ornament stock for upcoming shows. I have the SUNY Plattsburgh Craft show this weekend. It is one of the bigger shows in the area and was a good venue for me last year.  Here are some recent magnets, ornaments and a square bowl in progress.

In my spare time, I have also been working on my digital painting skills.  One of my goals for improvement earlier this year was to work on more dynamic figures and backgrounds. The following two sketches are a start to that.  For the first, I referenced stock photos by Chonastock on Deviant art for the pose. The second sketch was inspired by Brom.

The End and the Beginning

The year 2011 is coming to a close. I have had a very productive and wonderful year with art. I started my craft business and really started to hone my pyrography and overall art skills. I have had a few stumbles along the way, but overall I think I am heading in the right direction. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who watch, support, and inspire me.

2012 is bringing even more changes and opportunities.

Happy New Year

Holidays and Works in Progress

The holiday season is here. I have two more shows, but I still have some time for holiday commissions. Time is running out. If you are interested in a custom piece and want it in time for Christmas, please let me know before December 5th.  Commissions are limited to items I currently have in stock. I have 6 and 7 inch bowls, frames, coasters, spoons, and a few boxes.

I’m offering free shipping for a week on my ArtFire store with the use of this coupon.

Handmade for the Holidays

This year I would like to encourage people to either make at least one gift or to buy from an artist or craftsperson that specializes in handmade items.  There are lots of reasons to do it. You’ll be giving someone something unique and personal. If you buy handmade, you’ll be supporting the artist and the art community. While handmade items might cost more than something that you can buy at a store (Walmart for example), they are often of better quality.  As an artist I can tell you that if you buy handmade, you are supporting someone’s dream of doing what they love everyday.

Need some ideas?

Here are some ideas on things you can make yourself:

  • baked goods
  • homemade soap
  • a painting or drawing
  • hand painted ornaments (they sell undecorated ones at craft stores)
  • beaded jewelry
  • knitted or crocheted items

If you would like to buy,  I suggest checking out Etsy or, my favorite, ArtFire.

Owl Painting

I did this little painting as a holiday exchange on Epilogue.

It is acrylic on coldpress paper 4×6 inches. Like the Letter A, it has gold paint that did not photograph well. The original is now in Sweden 🙂

Commission Sale

In the spirit of the holidays and keeping the current economy in mind I’m doing a sale on commissions.

I am offering 4×6 to 5×7 paintings for $45.
Examples of what I can do:

The sale will last through the end of January, but if you are wanting a Christmas gift please get in touch with me before December 10th.
If interested, please e-mail me at fireoakstudio@gmail.com

Holiday Card for Sale

I just finished this season’s holiday card. You can find it at my zazzle store
